About
Cletus "Cowboy" Davis has practiced law in Houston since 1962. After receiving a Bachelor of Science degree in Geology in El Paso, he attended South Texas College of Law where he completed a Doctorate of Jurisprudence. Cowboy used his education to serve as assistant district attorney for three years, during which time he tried over 60 jury cases.
Upon leaving the District Attorney’s office, Cowboy served as a State Representative in the Texas Legislature for four years and practiced law with the firm of Boswell, O’Toole, Davis & Pickering until 1983. As a named partner, he represented clients in extensive business transactions, family law cases, probate, estate planning, commercial real estate matters, and litigation.
In 1983, Cowboy and three associates formed Cletus Davis & Associates, P.C. to better provide quality legal services for his clients. In this position, he represented businessmen, entrepreneurs, and real estate developers while continuing to expertly handle divorce cases, guardianships, and complex estate planning matters.
Cowboy organized Cletus Davis, P.C. in 1991 to focus specifically on Family Law, probate, guardianships, Estate Planning, and business litigation. His passion for Family Law led to his certification as a Family Law Mediator and completion of three additional mediation training courses.
In 1983, Cowboy Davis was certified as a Commercial Real Estate Attorney by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization. He completed both the Civil Trial Advocacy Course at South Texas College of Law and the Collaborative Law Process Training in 2000. As a member of the Texas Bar Association and Brazos County Bar Association, he is well certified for his active role in the Family Law, Probate, and Estate Planning sections of these organizations. Additionally, he is a member of the same sections in the American Bar Association, making him well-versed on every level of the court system.
Cowboy Davis' personal achievements and commitments define his character outside of the courtroom. His 51-year marriage to his best friend, Bets Davis, has blessed him with two grown children and five grandsons. In the fall of 2001, Cowboy and Bets moved to Bryan-College Station to spend more time with their grandchildren.
For over 35 years, Cowboy and his wife have led the community by teaching marriage enrichment courses at Memorial Drive Presbyterian Church and conducting their most meaningful ministry, engagement counseling, from their home. A strong belief in Jesus Christ inspires Cowboy Davis to apply his Christian principles to every case he handles. Compassion for the pain caused by every divorce case, especially trauma experienced by children, leads Cowboy to encourage divorce clients to seek a Family Law Mediator or the Collaborative Law Process. This allows for a peaceful restructuring of the family relationship without the bitterness and anger that develop when parties adopt conventional divorce litigation approaches, seeking to prove past negative deeds.
Cowboy’s vast business and courtroom experience includes evaluating and dividing complicated marital estate assets such as oil and gas properties, and real estate. His skill and conviction allows him to easily negotiate a client’s case, whether it is a divorce or an Estate Planning program.
As an attorney with the ability to not only listen carefully to the problems of a failed marriage, but also successfully navigate a complicated family estate, Cowboy has built his reputation over 16 years of law counseling, and 32 years of divorce and Estate Planning practice. From small estates to multi-million dollar assets, each client’s case receives the same vigilance and consideration.
